RETIREMENTS

During the Tuesday, September 27, 2016, Board meeting, the Board of Supervisors and the Sheriff's Office honored Deputy Auditor Jean Jessen and Sioux City Assistant Fire Chief Jim Clark on their retirements.  They will both be missed.  Jean was always a great help anytime the Sheriff's Office needed assistance from the Auditor's Office.  She was always upbeat, positive and wonderful to work with.  Asst. Chief Jim Clark was much the same.  Working at The Security Institute and with Emergency Management, he was always there to assist with incidents requiring mulitple agency responses.  He always got the job done.  Thank you to Jean and Jim for their dedicated service to Woodbury County and Sioux City.

THANK YOU TIRES TIRES TIRES AND POWELL BROADCASTING FOR SUPPORTING LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT

Recently, Tires Tires Tires and Powell Broadcasting wanted to show their appreciation for local law enforcement and came up with an idea to have black t-shirts printed with a blue stripe across the chest that say, "I Support Law Enforcement."  They sold the t-shirts to the public and all of the money generated from the sale of the shirts was donated to the Sioux City Police Department and the Woodbury County Sheriff's Office.  Everyone with the Sheriff's Office wants to thank Tires Tires Tires and Powell Broadcasting for absorbing the cost of making the t-shirts, and the public for buying the shirts and supporting the men and women that work in law enforcement here in Sioux City and Woodbury County.  The project generated $5,381.00.  Below is a photo of Sheriff Dave Drew and SCPD Detective Brad Echter accepting the donations.   Thank you to all and God Bless.

2016 C.E.R.T. CHALLENGE X

On September 7, 2016, members of the Woodbury County Sheriff's Office participated in a statewide competition for SWAT teams.  Different stations were set up that tested SWAT members shooting skills, physical agility, cardio, and strength.  Some stations combined all four and were timed.  The competition was conducted in Lehigh, Iowa and included twelve tactical teams from all over the state.  Below are some photos taken by Major Greg Stallman during the competition.  As we receive the testing results, we will post them.  We are all proud of them for participating!  Thank you!

SPECIAL THANKS TO MARK STOCKTON & STOCKTON TOWING

Recently, Mark Stockton, owner of Stockton Towing, made a substantial donation to members of the Woodbury County, Plymouth County and Sioux County Sheriff's Office Honor Guards to help defer the cost so members from all three offices could make the trips to honor and show respect for fallen officers in Dallas and Kansas City.  Without Mr. Stockton's generosity, Honor Guard members from all three counties would not have been able to make the trips. It is important for the law enforcement community and the communities and families of the fallen, to stand as one to show their respect, grieve the loss, and celebrate the lives of the fallen and to show the nation that good does and will triumph over evil.  Thank you and God Bless Mark Stockton for helping send that message.

Pictured below (top photo) is Mark Stockton and his son Bronc, holding the Recognition plaque, surrounded by (left) Deputy Willie Garrett and (right) Deputy Brad Rose, both Honor Guard members of the Woodbury County Sheriff's Office.  The second photo is one of Mr. Stockton's trucks depicting artwork supporting our military.  The bottom photo is the plaque presented to Mr. Stockton thanking him for his support.

COUNTY GOVERNMENT DAY

Everyone had a great time at the inugural Woodbury County Government Day, Tuesday, May 24th.  All of the county offices and departments participated.  The Sheriff's Office displayed our Mobile Command Unit, SWAT Vehicle, Rescue Boat, UTV, and the Deputies and Correctional Officers Union gave us the use of their dunk tank where we raised a little bit of money for the Couthouse Restoration project.  We had volunteers sit in the dunk tank.  They are pictured below.

Sasha Jennifer Dunk Tank

Sasha Downs on the left and Jennifer Beeson on the right from the Sheriff's Office volunteered first to get into the ice cold water to help raise a little money for the Courthouse Restoration project.  Jeana Davis ran the dunk tank and collected the donations all afternoon.  Thank you Sasha, Jennifer, and Jeana for helping out.  Our office staff is always there to help out with projects like this and we greatly appreciate it!

M Ung Dunk Tank

Board member Matthew Ung was next up in the dunk tank.  As you can see, Mr. Ung got into the spirit and did it in his best Sunday suit.  It was great!  Getting dunked in a suit to raise money for a good cause.  Thank you Mr. Ung!  We will do it again.

J Taylor Dunk Tank

Board Chairman Jeremy Taylor took the third shift in the dunk tank for us.  I can't say enough about Mr. Taylor and the Board members getting involved in these community activities.  We only had to ask once and they were all for climbing into that cold water to make it a fun and enjoyable day!  As I mentioned above, we will do this again.  Thank you to everyone that participated and came to County Government Day.
