SEPTEMBER 14, 2001 SPECIAL MEETING OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
The Board of Supervisors met on Friday, September 14, 2001 at 9:00 A.M. Board members present were Boykin, Clausen, Walish and Welte. Batcheller were absent. Staff members present were Victoria L. Ritz, Deputy Commissioner of Elections and Patrick F. Gill, County Auditor/Clerk to the Board.

The meeting was called to order to canvass the Annual School Board Elections held in Woodbury County on September 11, 2001.

Victoria Ritz, Deputy Commissioner of Elections, announced there were five (5) special challenged ballots, of which two (2) were accepted and added to the tally list, and there were fourteen (14) after election absentee ballots that were postmarked the day before the election and received prior to the canvass that were added to the Tally.

Motion by Clausen second by Walish to accept the Official Canvass results as follows:

For the office of Anthon-Oto Community School District Board Member, Director District #3, there were Five Hundred Eighty Eight (588) votes cast as follows:

Dennis L. Johnson received Two Hundred Eighty (280) votes
Wade R. Nelson received Three Hundred Seven (307) votes
Scattered Write In received One (1) vote

We therefore declare Wade R. Nelson duly elected to the office of Anthon-Oto Community School Board Member, Director District #3, for the term of 3 years.

For the office of Lawton-Bronson Community School District Board Member, Director District #5, there were Eighty-Six (86) votes cast as follows:

Viola A. Newhard received Eighty-Six (86) votes

We therefore declare Viola A. Newhard duly elected to the office of Lawton-Bronson Community School Board Member, Director District # 5, for the term of 3 years.

For the office of River Valley Community School District Board Member, Director District #2, there were Two Hundred Nineteen (219) votes cast as follows:

Roy D. Linn received Two Hundred Three (203) votes
Scattered Write Ins received Sixteen (16) votes

We therefore declare Roy D. Linn duly elected to the office of River Valley Community School District Board Member, District #2, for the term of 3 years.

For the office of River Valley Community School District Board Member, Director District #3, there were Two Hundred Eighty-Four (283) votes cast as follows:

Sally Deeds received Fifty-eight (58) votes
Scott Knaack received Seventy-nine (79) votes
Mary E. Todd received One Hundred Forty-five (145) votes
Scattered Write-ins received One (1) vote

We therefore declare Mary E. Todd duly elected to the office of River Valley Community School District Board Member, Director District #3, for the term of 3 years.

For the office of Sergeant Bluff-Luton Community School District Board Member there were Two Hundred Ninety (290) votes cast as follows:

Pamela Brinkman received Sixty-three (63) votes
Therese A. Haindfield received One Hundred Ninety-five (195) votes
Mark A. Reinders received One Hundred Sixty-nine (169) votes
Patty Saunders received One Hundred Six (106) votes
Scattered Write-ins received Two (2) votes

We therefore declare Therese A. Haindfield and Mark A. Reinders duly elected to the office of Sergeant Bluff-Luton Community School District Board Member for the term of 3 years.

For the office of Sioux City Community School District Board Member there were Four Thousand One Hundred Fifty-eight (4,158) votes cast as follows:

Robert B. Deck received One Thousand Eight Hundred Thirty-Six (1836) votes
Anne N. James received Two Thousand Seven-Hundred Forty-Two (2742) votes
Valorie Kruse received Two Thousand Four Hundred Seventy-eight (2478) votes
Scattered Write-In Votes received Seventeen (17) votes

We therefore declare Anne N. James and Valorie Kruse duly elected to the office of Sioux City Community School District Board Members for the term of 3 years.

For the office of Westwood Community School District Board Member, Director District #1, there were Fifty-Seven (57) votes cast as follows:
Susan Mohning received Fifty-Four (54) votes
Scattered Write-ins received Three (3) votes

We therefore declare Susan Mohning duly elected to the office of the Westwood Community School District Board Member, Director District #1, for the term of 3 years.

For the office of Woodbury Central Community School District Board Member there were Three Hundred Forty-One (341) votes cast as follows:

Sharon Barnett received Ninety-one (91) votes
Renee Foster received Eighty-five (85) votes
Jerry R. Self Jr. received Two Hundred Two (202) votes
Jerry Steffen received Two Hundred Thirty-nine (239) votes
Scattered Write-ins received Three (3) votes

We therefore declare Jerry R. Self Jr. and Jerry Steffen duly elected to the office of Woodbury Central Community School District Board Member for the term of 3 years.


For the office of Woodbury Central Community School District Board Member there were Two Hundred Seventy-Four (274) votes cast as follows:

Jeannie K. Crick received Two Hundred Sixty-five (265) votes
Scattered Write-ins received Nine (9) votes

We therefore declare Jeannie K. Crick duly elected to the office of Woodbury Central Community School District Board Member for the term of One Year Unexpired.

Carried 4-0.

Because it was determined that there was a need to address an additional item at this time, an item was added to the agenda.

Motion by Welte second by Walish to close the Courthouse from 11:45 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. in order for county employees to attend the services at the Convention Center for National Prayer Day and Remembrance. Carried 4-0.

The Board adjourned the meeting.
