SEPTEMBER 12, 2003 - SPECIAL MEETING OF THE WOODBURY COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
The Board of Supervisors met on Friday, September 12, 2003, at 10:30 A.M. Board members present were Clausen, Welte and Walish; Batcheller and Boykin were absent. Staff members present were Victoria L. Ritz, Deputy Commissioner of Elections, and Patrick F. Gill, County Auditor/Clerk to the Board.

The meeting was called to order to canvass the Annual School Board Election held in Woodbury County on September 9, 2003.

Victoria Ritz, Deputy Commissioner of Elections, announced there were five (5) special challenged ballots, of which three (3) were accepted and added to the tally, and no after election absentee ballots.

Motion by Welte second by Clausen to approve and accept the Official Canvass results. Carried 3-0. Copy filed.

Official Canvass results were as follows:


For the office of Anthon-Oto Community School District Board Member Director District #4 there were Two hundred fifty-eight (258) ballots cast as follows:

Daniel Brant received Two hundred forty-six 246 votes
Scattered Write-In Votes received Four 4 votes

We therefore declare Daniel Brant duly elected to the office of Anthon-Oto Community School District Board Member-Director District #4 for the term of three (3) years.


For the office of Anthon-Oto Community School District Board Member - Director District #5 there were Two hundred fifty-eight (258) ballots cast as follows:

Michael B. Pope received Two hundred forty-eight 248 votes
Scattered Write-In Votes received Four 4 votes

We therefore declare Michael B. Pope duly elected to the office of Anthon-Oto Community School District Board Member-Director District #5 for the term of three (3) years.


For the office of Lawton-Bronson Community School District Board Member-Director District #5 there were Sixty-four (64) ballots cast as follows:

Mark W. Thompson received Thirty-six 36 votes
Darrell Lahrs (Write-in) received Twenty-three 23 votes
Pam Houchin (Write-in) received Two 2 votes
Doug Johnson (Write-in) received Two 2 votes
Randy Amick (Write-in) received One 1 vote

We therefore declare Mark W. Thompson duly elected to the office of Lawton-Bronson Community School District Board Member-Director District #5 for the term of three (3) years.


For the office of River Valley Community School District Board Member-Director District #1 there were One hundred eight (108) ballots cast as follows:

D. Scott Carnes received Forty-eight 48 votes
Kevin Tapper (Write-in) received Forty-seven 47 votes
Mike Smith (Write-in) received One 1 vote
Tim Tapper (Write-in) received One 1 vote

We therefore declare D. Scott Carnes duly elected to the office of River Valley Community School District Board Member-Director District #1 for the term of three (3) years.


For the office of River Valley Community School District Board Member-Director District #4 there were One hundred eight (108) ballots cast as follows:

Terry Jensen received Ninety-four 94 votes
Park Ludvigson (Write-in) received Five 5 votes
Pam Briese (Write-in) received Two 2 votes
Brian Briese (Write-in) received One 1 vote

We therefore declare Terry Jensen duly elected to the office of River Valley Community School District Board Member-Director District #4 for the term of three (3) years.


For the office of Sergeant Bluff-Luton Community School District Board Member there were Thirty-three (33) ballots cast as follows:

Robert Shultz received Twenty-nine 29 votes
Neil A. Stockfleth received Twenty-eight 28 votes
Scattered Write-Ins received Two 2 votes

We therefore declare Robert Shultz and Neil A. Stockfleth duly elected to the office of
Sergeant Bluff-Luton Community School District Board Member for the term of three (3) years.


For the office of Sioux City Community School District Board Member there were Three thousand three hundred eighty-four (384) ballots cast as follows:

Douglas K. Batcheller received Two thousand two hundred twenty-three 2,223 votes
Jim Daane received Two thousand two hundred sixty-two 2,262 votes
Nancy Mounts received Two thousand three hundred seventy-five 2,375 votes
Lynn Richardson received One thousand five hundred eighty-three 1,583 votes
Scattered Write-Ins received Fourteen 14 votes

We therefore declare Douglas K. Batcheller, Jim Daane, and Nancy Mounts duly elected to the office of Sioux City Community School District Board Member for the term of three (3) years.


For the office of Westwood Community School District Board Member there were Two hundred forty-nine (249) ballots cast as follows:

Martin J. Choquette received One hundred fifty-eight 158 votes
Dennis Gallagher received One hundred fifty-one 151 votes
Don Lord received One hundred thirty-six 136 votes
Scattered Write-Ins received Two 2 votes

We therefore declare Martin J. Choquette and Dennis Gallagher duly elected to the office of Westwood Community School District Board Member for the term of three (3) years.


For the office of Woodbury Central Community School District Board Member there were
One hundred thirty-one (131) ballots cast as follows:

Don Chesley received One hundred nine 109 votes
Thomas Conolly received Seventy-three 73 votes
Stacy L. Harris received Fifty-four 54 votes
Brian Sadler received Ninety-four 94 votes
Scattered Write-Ins received Two 2 votes

We therefore declare Don Chesley, Thomas Conolly, and Brian Sadler duly elected to the office of Woodbury Central Community School District Board Member for the term of three (3) years.


The Board adjourned the meeting.
