Why did I receive a School, County, and City Budget Year Statement?
A
Purpose of mailer (required by Iowa Code 24.2A)
- To notify the tax payers the maximum amount of total property tax dollars that the city, county, and school are proposing.
- Budget hearing date, time and location are listed for each authority - specific auhtoirty questions should use that authoritiy's phone # for questions
- Compares current tax dollars and levy to proposed tax dollars and levy
- Not a bill or tax notice
- Budget hearing attendance is optional
- Hypothetical Example on middle of back of statement:
- shows current taxes for each authority for a $100,000 assessed residence compared to a $110,000 assessed residence with proposed levy
