Summary
Responsible and accountable for the accurate, efficient handling and collecting of the entire amount of money for County Funding from all sources and for the proper processing and balancing of all collected amounts. The effective accomplishment of various other clerical duties related to scope of responsibility as assigned and under direct authority of the Supervisor/Deputy and/or County Treasurer.
Essential Functions
The following duties are typical for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.- Responsible for the balancing daily receipts for all tax payments, which includes receiving payments and issuing miscellaneous receipts from all County departments. Responsible for the cash count each day and reporting all money on hand (cash, checks and credit/debit payments) at the end of the fiscal and calendar year
- Performs a variety of tasks dealing with the accurate and effective collection of money coming into the County; including bad
- checks, and special assessment records
- Prepares a variety of tax receipts in an accurate, timely, and efficient manner
- Perform daily and monthly balancing of all DNR monies and monthly reports to the State DNR
- Verify the deposit of funds as accurate
- Provide back-up for the Tax Deputy for all functions relating to the Tax Deputy's job duties
- Communicates, in a tactful and effective manner with others in order to present a good image of the County to the
taxpayers and general public - Accountable for the accurate balancing of large volumes of incoming money on a daily basis.
- Performs a variety of tasks dealing with the accurate and effective collection of money coming into the County including insufficient or bad check payments
- Responsible for making Auditor's corrections on the tax list
- Checks paperwork, collects and records the receipt of fees paid
- Responsible for learning all clerical duties of the Tax department, including answering inquiries in person and on the phone, collecting and entering tax payments including mobile home taxes and processing payments through the mail
- Performs various other duties related to scope of responsibilities as assigned by the County Treasurer
- Assists with the accurate and effective accomplishment of a variety of reports and other duties as assigned by County Treasurer and/or Appointed Deputy
- Attendance is required
Essential Knowledge, Experience, and Ability
Minimum Education and Experience Required to Performing Essential Functions:
- Must possess High School diploma or General Equivalency Degree (GED)
- Ability to set priorities regarding assignments and follow through to completion
- Good record keeping skills
- Specific knowledge of a body of rules or operations for a particular functional area or areas such as might be acquired in one (1) to three (3) years of prior related experience
- Knowledge and/or ability to acquire the skills of cash transaction, recording principles, receipting varied revenues
- Ability to keyboard accurately with a 40 words per minute (net score)
- Knowledge of general office equipment operations and procedures
- Knowledge of the operations of general office equipment including calculator and computers
- Ability to learn County software
- Candidate for hire must successfully pass a background check, a physical examination, and drug screening test prior to employment
- The ability to instruct and motivate others, as well as the ability to communicate tactfully and courteously with others in clearly spoken English
- Keyboarding skill test from Iowa Workforce Development with a 40 words per minute (net score) ,within the last 12 months.
