Summary

(Late May to Labor Day - Part time including weekends & holidays, 11:30 a.m. – 8 p.m.; Can split shifts with other staff)

The seasonal, temporary positions are available at Brown’s Lake – Bigelow Park near Salix, IA, and Little Sioux Park near Correctionville, IA. Positions will typically start in late May and run through Labor Day weekend. The positions will be involved with all aspects of operating a beach concession stand, including selling merchandise, renting recreational equipment, and keeping accurate sales records. This position is under the direct authority of County Conservation Area Resource Manager.

Essential Functions

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

The following duties are typical for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

· Sell merchandise from concession stand.

· Take and coordinate rentals of paddle boats, kayaks, and other recreation rental equipment.

· Provide instruction on proper use of rental equipment.

· Keep accurate records on sales transactions.

· Provide customer service to beach visitors and watch for rules violation.

· Keep beach area picked up and free of trash.

· Perform other related tasks as required.

· Attendance is required.

Non-Essential Functions and Responsibilities

· Assists with a variety of duties within scope of responsibility assigned by County Conservation Area Resource Manager

Minimum Education and Experience Required to Perform Essential Functions:

· Minimum 18 years of age

· Experience with cash registered operation, sales experience, and water activities preferred

· Ability to communicate effectively with park visitors

· Ability to work weekends and holidays

Mental and Physical Competencies Required to Perform Essential Functions:

Language Ability

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the County. Ability to read and understand maps, legal descriptions, policies, and procedures. Able by voice communications to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word.

Mathematical Skills and Knowledge

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw or interpret

graphs. Knowledge of basic principles. Knowledge of legislative requirements. Knowledge of County procedures.

Cognitive Demands

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to set priorities regarding assignments and follow through to completion; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.

Equipment Used

Ability to use cash register, credit card machine, complete inventory, and keep accurate sales records.

Special Requirements:

Reliable transportation to work required. Ability to work weekends and holidays.

Ability to successfully complete all pre-employment requirements.

Essential Knowledge, Experience, and Ability

Qualifications

Possession of a current valid driver's license. Ability to occasionally lift 50 pounds. May be exposed to various types of weather conditions.
