Summary

The Code of Iowa, section 229.19, governs the MH Advocate position. Each County is required to appoint a mental health advocate to represent the interests of clients involuntarily hospitalized by the Court. The advocate is to act as the liaison for all persons in their assigned county involved in involuntary hospitalization proceedings and their follow-up treatment. The advocate's responsibilities begin when notice is received in compliance with Code section 229.9A. The purpose of this position is to provide support to the Mental Health Advocate as outlined under Essential Duties and Responsibilities.

Essential Functions

? CSN (client database} and EDMS duties:
o Creating new committal files in CSN
o Terminating committals in CSN and EDMS
o Updating demographic and committal information in CSN
o Entering monthly e-claims in CSN
o Scan and upload documents into CSN files
? Mailings:
o Preparing and Mailing introductory letters to clients
o Preparing and Mailing transfer letter to clients transferring venues
o Preparing and Mailing discharge letters to clients when committal is terminated
o Preparing and Mailing new ROI to clients for signature
? Miscellaneous:
o Substitute during MHA absences for court hearings
o Conduct quarterly quality assurance reviews
o Track local jail rosters for jailed clients
o Maintain and update MHA client Excel spreadsheet to track client activity
o Check local obituaries for deceased committals
o CSN Expert user
2. Attend trainings and conferences to develop and maintain knowledge of Iowa
Administrative Code and changes occurring within the Human Service Field.
3. Maintains valid driver's license and proof of insurance at all times and willing to travel
between counties.

Essential Knowledge, Experience, and Ability

• High School Diploma or GED
• A minimum of one years' experience in the provision of services in a human services related field.
