Summary
ENTRY SALARY: $18.22 - $20.02/hour (Based on Experience) (Plus Partial Benefits)
PART-TIME APPROX. 5-10 HOURS PER WEEK PLUS FILL-IN SHIFTS
Responsible for the safekeeping and welfare of all citizens and employees within the Woodbury County Courthouse, including the safety and security and assisting in other responsibilities as necessary. This position is under the direct authority of the County Courthouse Sheriff, Major or Sergeant.
Essential Functions

Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Maintain order, discipline, safety and security within assigned areas in accordance with relevant rules, regulations, policies, and laws
- Provide security for the entrance of the Woodbury County Courthouse
- Perform searches of employees or visitors to locate any contraband or unlawful items
- Certified to carry a weapon and while in the performance as a Courthouse Security Officer
- Take, receive, or check all incoming baggage, bundles, boxes, purses, briefcases, etc.
- Maintain records within scope of assigned responsibility
- Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals
- Maintain knowledge of, comply with, and enforce all institutional policies, rules, procedures, and regulations
- Monitor behavior of subordinates to ensure alert, courteous, and professional behavior towards fellow employees, visitors, and the public and/or visitors
- Develop ongoing work or security procedures for the entrance of the Courthouse
- Work with scanners and other security related equipment and tools
- Resolve problems with access to the Courthouse
- Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures
- Report all unsafe activities to Supervisors and/or Human Resources
- Performs various other duties relating to scope of responsibility as assigned by County Courthouse Safety and Security Supervisor
- Attendance is required
Essential Knowledge, Experience, and Ability
Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Required to Perform Essential Functions:
- Must be a United States citizen
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have a high school diploma and/or be an associate's degree or higher or comparable experience in directly related field, ie comparable experience from civilian law enforcement, military security, or private security
- Must be certified to carry a weapon
- Knowledge of law enforcement and meet the qualifications of the ILEA
- Knowledge of civil and criminal laws relating to scope of responsibility
- Knowledge of rules of evidence
- Knowledge of first-aid and emergency principles
- Ability to tactfully and effectively communicate with others
- Knowledge of human relations; basic knowledge of psychological principles
- Personal maturity to maintain emotional stability in unusual situations of stress or social interaction pressure
- Candidate for hire must successfully pass a background check, physical, vision, psychological testing and drug screening prior to employment.
