Summary
Essential Functions
The following duties are typical for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
· Responsible for carrying out all District Court orders within area of responsibility, including District Court, Associate District Court and Juvenile Court instructions, primarily in the area of serving civil papers and arrest warrants as assigned
· Escorts assigned prisoners to and from courtrooms and maintains control of prisoners while in the courtroom and at all other times when the officer is charged with their care and custody
· Assists in the performance of a variety of duties related to the conduct of court activities on the scheduled basis, including assisting in lining up the traffic and criminal cases for court, the contacting of interested parties for court appearances, and the assistance of persons involved in court activities
· Assists in maintaining court security and inspects courtrooms to assure proper security as required
· Assists Judges in District Court as assigned, in the effective accomplishment of routine duties as required
· Serves civil papers and arrest warrants as assigned
· Transports individuals in the care and custody of the Sheriff, to and from institutions and facilities in which they have been held or are to be held
· Maintains records and reports within the scope of assigned responsibilities
· Keeps current trends and developments in areas of responsibility
· Assists Jail staff personnel with general Correctional Officer duties as assigned
· Shall perform duties in addition to regular duties as assigned by the Sheriff or authorized supervisor
Non-Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
· Performs various other duties relating to scope of responsibility as assigned by County Sheriff and/or authorized supervisor with respect to the Court Security/Transport function
Essential Knowledge, Experience, and Ability
Minimum Education and Experience Required to Perform Essential Functions:
Knowledge of basic court procedures
Knowledge of basic law enforcement procedure
Cognizant of departmental policies and procedures
Possess the physical ability to meet requirements of assigned duties
Ability to tactfully and effectively communicate with others
Personal maturity to maintain emotional stability in situations of unusual stress or social pressure
Must be a graduate of an accredited high school or have attained equivalent GED
Knowledge of jail practices, the court system, prisoner classification and ability to read and interpret court orders and expedite the same.
Is of good moral character as determined by a thorough background investigation including a fingerprint search of local, state and national files
Is not by reason of conscience or belief opposed to the use of force when appropriate or necessary to fulfill his/her duties
Must have personal maturity to maintain emotional stability in unusual situations of stress or social interaction pressure
Must pass psychological examination by County designated physicians
Candidate for hire must successfully pass a background check , a physical examination, vision, back screen and drug screen prior to employment
Mental and Physical Competencies Required to Perform Essential Functions:
Language Ability
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating, and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals and/or Iowa or County systems. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the County in clearly spoken English. Ability to communicate Woodbury County policies to managerial and
non-managerial groups in person and in writing. Ability to read and understand legal descriptions, policies, and procedures.
Able by voice communications to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word in clearly spoken English
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw or interpret graphs. Knowledge of basic bookkeeping principles. Knowledge of legislative requirements related to County systems. Knowledge of County principles and procedures.

Ability to begin work at the starting time without tardiness, absenteeism, or leaving work early without authorization or for good reason. Conduct or appearance in good keeping with a professional image and/or position of the County. Ability to read and understand the Work Rules of the County such as Bullying will not be tolerated, theft and dishonesty will not be tolerated, and disobedience, insubordination, or refusal to comply with reasonable instructions of authorized supervision will not be tolerated. Ability to cope with numerous time sensitive requests from County offices. Attendance is required.

Equipment Used
Computer, typewriter, printers, calculator (10 key), copier, mail process machine, possess knowledge of general office equipment and procedures, including ability to type and accurate proofreading.
Physical Demands
Typical environment involving sitting, walking, occasional bending, lifting and carrying objects and negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects 50-80 pounds. Horizontal and vertical reaching motion is required. Aptitudes required are those typically associated with operations related to Law Enforcement, numerical and forms perceptions, clarity of vision 20” or less to view computer screens and for preparing and analyzing written data and to determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surrounds and activities, legal documents and cards; eye/hand/foot coordination, hand and finger dexterity, motor coordination, grasping and repetitive motions, hearing to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and conversation skills for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word in clearly spoken English. Attendance is required
