SEPTEMBER 17, 1999 SPECIAL MEETING OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
The Board of Supervisors met on Friday, September 17, 1999 at 11:30 A.M. Board members present were Batcheller, Boykin, Clausen and Walish. Welte was absent. Staff member present was Vicki Ritz, Deputy Commissioner of Elections in the absence of Patrick F. Gill, County Auditor/Clerk to the Board.

The meeting was called to order to canvass the Annual School Board Elections held in Woodbury County on September 14, 1999.

Vicki Ritz, Deputy Commissioner of Elections announced there were five (5) special challenged ballots, of which none were accepted and there was one (1) after election absentee ballots that was postmarked the day before the election and received prior to the canvass that was added to the Tally for the Lawton-Bronson Community School District.

Motion by Batcheller second by Walish to accept the Official Canvass results as follows: Carried 4-0.

For the office of Anthon-Oto School Board Director District #1 there were Two Hundred Ninety-Four (294) votes cast as follows:

Judee Schumann (Write-in) received One Hundred Twenty-Five (125) votes
Bill OConnell (Write-in) received Ninety-Five (95) votes

We therefore declare Judee Schumann duly elected to the office of School Board Director District #1 for the term of 3 years.

For the office of Anthon-Oto School Board Director District #2 there were Two Hundred Ninety-Four (294) votes cast as follows:

Margarete Sauser received Forty-Eight (48) votes
Mark Bumsted (Write-in) received Two Hundred Thirty-Nine (239) votes

We therefore declare Mark Bumsted duly elected to the office of School Board Director District #2 for the term of 3 years.

For the office of Kingsley-Pierson School Board Director District #1 within Woodbury County only there were Forty-One (41) votes cast as follows:

Buddy Herbold (Write-in) received Eighteen (18) votes
Dave Riordan (Write-in) received Fourteen (14) votes
Susan Spooner (Write-in) received Four (4) votes
Jack Burright (Write-in) received One (1) vote

For the office of Lawton-Bronson School Board Director District #1 there were Five Hundred Twenty-Seven (527) votes cast as follows:

Douglas E. Boetger received Two Hundred Sixty-Four (264) votes
Spencer O. Griffith received Two Hundred Thirty-Two (232) votes
Betty L. Sieger received Forty (40) votes
Scattered Write-ins received Two (2) votes

We therefore declare Douglas E. Boetger duly elected to the office of School Board Director District #1 for the term of 3 years.

For the office of Lawton-Bronson School Board Director District #4 there were Five Hundred Twenty-Seven (527) votes cast as follows:

Julie Karrer received Two Hundred Eighty-One (281) votes
Monica J. Mathistad received Two Hundred Fifty-Five (255) votes
Scattered Write-in received One (1) vote

We therefore declare Julie Karrer duly elected to the office of School Board Director District #4 for the term of 3 years.

For the office of River Valley School Board Director there were Ninety-Two (92) votes cast as follows:

Jim Stowater received Eight-Four (84) votes
Scattered Write-ins received Eight (8) votes

We therefore declare Jim Stowater duly elected to the office of School Board Director for the term of 3 years.

For the office of Sergeant Bluff-Luton School Board Director there were Ninety-One (91) votes cast as follows:

Joanne Day received Seventy-Eight (78) votes
Scattered Write-ins received Three (3) votes

We therefore declare Joanne Day duly elected to the office of School Board Director for the term of 3 years.

For the office of Sergeant Bluff-Luton School Board Director there were Ninety-One (91) votes cast as follows:

David H. Luhman received Eighty-Two (82) votes
Scattered Write-ins received Four (4) votes

We therefore declare David H. Luhman duly elected to the office of School Board Director for the 1 year unexpired term.

For the office of Sioux City School Board Director there were Six Thousand Ninety-Four (6,094) votes cast as follows:

Cheryl Connot Perez received Two Thousand Eight Hundred Seventy-One (2,871) votes
Judith K. Peterson received Three Thousand Seven Hundred Ninety-Two (3,792) votes
Bob Scott received Three Thousand Four Hundred Sixty-Seven (3,467) votes
Harry Keairns (Write-in) received Eight Hundred Seventy-Two (872) votes
Other Scattered Write-ins received One Hundred Ten (110) votes

We therefore declare Judith K. Peterson and Bob Scott duly elected to the office of School Board Directors for the term of 3 years.


For the office of Westwood School Board Director District #2 there were Three Hundred Seventeen (317) votes cast as follows:

James McKenna received One Hundred Seventy-Four (174) votes
Roxie A. Ullrich received One Hundred Fifty-Two (152) votes
Scattered Write-in received One (1) vote

We therefore declare James McKenna duly elected to the office of School Board Director District #2 for the term of 3 years.

For the office of Westwood School Board Director District #3 there were Three Hundred Seventeen (317) votes cast as follows:
Dale Smith received One Hundred Seventy-Six (176) votes
Michele Mustain Wing received One Hundred Forty-Six (146) votes
Scattered Write-ins received Two (2) votes

We therefore declare Dale Smith duly elected to the office of School Board Director District #3 for the term of 3 years.

For the office of Woodbury Central School Board Director there were Fifty-Eight (58) votes cast as follows:

Harry E. Jahn received Forty-One (41) votes
Joyce Brende Kizzier received Forty-One (41) votes
Scattered Write-ins received Seventeen (17) votes

We therefore declare Harry E. Jahn and Joyce Brende Kizzier duly elected to the office of School Board Directors for the term of 3 years.

The Board adjourned the meeting.
