SEPTEMBER 15, 2000 SPECIAL MEETING OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
The Board of Supervisors met on Friday, September 15, 2000 at 9:00 A.M. Board members present were Boykin, Welte and Walish. Clausen and Batcheller were absent. Staff members present were Vicki Ritz, Deputy Commissioner of Elections and Patrick F. Gill, County Auditor/Clerk to the Board.

The meeting was called to order to canvass the Annual School Board Elections held in Woodbury County on September 12, 2000.

Vicki Ritz, Deputy Commissioner of Elections announced there were eight (8) special challenged ballots, of which two were accepted and added to the tally list and there were two (2) after election absentee ballots that were postmarked the day before the election and received prior to the canvass that were added to the Tally.

Motion by Welte second by Walish to accept the Official Canvass results as follows:

For the office of Anthon-Oto School Board Director District # 4 there were Four Hundred Eighty Six (486) votes cast as follows:

Mark Baldwin received Two Hundred Eighty Eight (288) votes
Darwin Hamann received One Hundred Ninety Six (196) votes
Scateered Write In received One (1) vote

We therefore declare Mark Baldwin duly elected to the office of School Board Director District # 4 for the term of 3 years.

For the office of Anthon-Oto School Board Director District # 5 there were Four Hundred Eighty Six (486) votes cast as follows:

Karen Handke received Two Hundred (200) votes
Elizabeth Weber received Two Hundred Seventy Four (274) votes
Scattered Write In received Three (3) votes

We therefore declare Elizabeth Weber duly elected to the office of School Board Director District # 5 for the term of 3 years.

For the office of Kingsley-Pierson School Board Director District # 2, within Woodbury County only, there were Thirty Seven (37) votes cast as follows:

Julie Hlas received Thirty Two (32) votes
Scattered Write In received Two (2) votes

For the office of Kingsley-Pierson School Board Director District # 4, within Woodbury County only, there were Thirty Seven (37) votes cast as follows:

Charles E. Hardie received Thirty Six (36) votes

For the office of Lawton-Bronson School Board Director District # 2 there were Four Hundred (448) votes cast as follows:

Daryl W. Lahrs received Two Hundred Ten (210) votes
Mark Thompson received Two Hunred Thirty (230) votes
Scattered Write-ins received One (1) vote

We therefore declare Mark Thompson duly elected to the office of School Board Director District # 2 for the term of 3 years.

For the office of Lawton-Bronson School Board Director District #3 there were Four Hundred Forty-eight (448) votes cast as follows:

David Scholten received Three Hundred fifty-six (356) votes
Scattered Write-ins received Nineteen (19) votes

We therefore declare David Scholten duly elected to the office of School Board Director District #3 for the term of 3 years.

For the office of River Valley School Board Director District #1 there were Two Hundred Six (206) votes cast as follows:

David Scott Carnes received One Hunred Thirty-seven (137) votes
Jason Lester Parrott received Sixty-one (61) votes
Scattered Write-ins received One (1) vote

We therefore declare David Scott Carnes duly elected to the office of School Board Director District #1 for the term of 3 years.

For the office of River Valley School Board Director District #4 there were Two Hundred Six (206) votes cast as follows:

Park Ludvigson (Write-in) received Sixty-seven (67) votes
Scattered Write-ins received Fifteen (15) votes

We therefore declare Park Ludvigson duly elected to the office of School Board Director #4 for the term of 3 years.

For the office of Sergeant Bluff-Luton School Board Director there were Three Hundred Twenty-two (322) votes cast as follows:

David H. Luhman received One Hundred Twenty-two (122) votes
Robert Shultz received One Hundred Sixty-nine (169) votes
Neil A. Stockfleth received Two Hundred Thirty-three (233) votes

We therefore declare Robert Shultz and Neil A. Stockfleth duly elected to the office of School Board Director for the term of 3 years.

For the office of Sioux City School Board Director there were Seven Thousand One Hundred Eighty (7,180) votes cast as follows:

Doug Batcheller received Four Thousand Two Hundred Seventy-four (4274) votes
Caroline Conkey received Two Thousand Eight Hundred Seventy-four (2874) votes
Flora M. Lee received Four thousand Five Hundred Forty-four (4544) votes
Nancy Mounts received Four Thousand Nine Hundred Nine (4909) votes
Lynn Richardson received Two Thousand Seventy (2070) votes
Scattered Write-ins received Twenty-three (23) votes

We therefore declare Doug Batcheller, Flora M. Lee and Nancy Mounts duly elected to the office of School Board Directors for the term of 3 years.

For the office of Westwood School Board Director District # 4 there were One Hundred Thirty (130) votes cast as follows:

Don Lord received One Hundred Eighteen (118) votes
Scattered Write-ins received Three (3) votes

We therefore declare Don Lord duly elected to the office of School Board Director District #4 for the term of 3 years.

For the office of Westwood School Board Director District #5 there were One Hundred Thirty (130) votes cast as follows:
Dean Carlson received One Hundred Ten (110) votes
Scattered Write-ins received One (1) vote

We therefore declare Dean Carlson duly elected to the office of School Board Director District #5 for the term of 3 years.

For the office of Woodbury Central School Board Director there were Four Hundred (400) votes cast as follows:

Don L. Chesley received Two Hundred Ninety-five (295) votes
Patricia Groth Hanson received One Hundred Ninety-one (191) votes
Kevin Loyd received Ninety-two (92) votes
Patrick Rogers received Two Hundred Seventy-two (272) votes
Brian Sadler received Two Hundred Twenty-two (222) votes
Scattered Write-ins received Four (4) votes

We therefore declare Don L. Chesley, Patrick Rogers and Brian Sadler duly elected to the office of School Board Directors for the term of 3 years.
Carried 3-0.

Because it was determined that there was a need to address an additional item at this time, an item was added to the agenda.

Motion by Walish second by Welte to authorize the chairman to request that the state fire marshal impose a burning ban on Woodbury County. Carried 3-0.
The Board adjourned the meeting.
