JULY 2, 2002FIRST MEETING OF THE WOODBURY COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
The Board of Supervisors met on Tuesday, July 2, 2002 at 9:00 A.M. Board members present were Batcheller, Boykin, Clausen, Walish and Welte. Staff members present were Karen James, Board Administrative Coordinator, Patrick F. Gill, Auditor/Clerk to the Board, and John Sullivan, Board Legal Counsel.

The Claims were approved as presented. Copy filed.

Meeting called to order.

Motion by Boykin second by Welte to approve the Board minutes of June 25, 2002 as submitted. Carried 4-0, Walish abstained.

Motion by Batcheller second by Boykin to approve the Board minutes of June 20, 2002 special meeting as submitted. Carried 5-0.

The Board approved the appointment of Mary L. Watchorn, Legal Secretary III, County Attorney Dept., @$12.60/hour, effective 7-03-02. Job Vacancy Posted: 6-10-02. Entry Level Salary: $12.60/hour. Copy filed.

The Board approved the appointment of Amy J. Johnson, Correctional Officer, County Sheriff Dept., @$13.70/hour, effective 7-09-02. Job Vacancy Posted: 5-22-02. Entry Level Salary: $13.70/hour. Copy filed.

The Board discussed Civil Service Commission appointment and staffing.

Motion by Boykin second by Welte to approve the appointment of Jay E. Denne as a member of the Civil Service Commission for a two year term. Carried 5-0. Copy filed.

Motion by Boykin second by Welte to approve the appointment of Sonya Pierce, county employee to work with the Civil Service Commission performing various functions as described in the commission rules and code. Carried 5-0. Copy filed.

Motion by Boykin second by Walish to approve and authorize the Chairman to sign Resolution No. 9579 approving correction of legal description of Parcel No. 027210 and publication of Notice of Property Sale and to set a public hearing on July 16, 2002 at 10:20 a.m. Carried 5-0.

the 16th Day of July, 2002, in the meeting room of the Board of Supervisors on the first floor of the Woodbury County Courthouse.

Motion by Welte second by Boykin to authorize the Chairman to sign Agreement for engineering services with HGM Associates Inc., Omaha, Nebraska, HGM Project No. 76062, for design of a bridge replacement for the City of Anthon, per recommendation of the county engineer. Carried 5-0. Copy filed.

Motion by Batcheller second by Boykin to authorize the Chairman to sign Agreement with United States Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service, NRCS, for funding of structure replacement regarding Little Sioux Flood Prevention Program. Carried 5-0. Copy filed.

County Engineer Richard Storm discussed bridge problems in West Fork, Grant, Willow, and Little Sioux Townships. Jan Rasco, 2792 Ida Avenue, discussed his concerns about a closed bridge near his place of residence.

Motion by Welte second by Walish to authorize the Chairman to sign 28E Agreement between Woodbury County and the Woodbury Soil and Water Conservation District for funding and management of a watershed inspection and maintenance program in Woodbury County. Carried 4-0, Boykin abstained. Copy filed.

Motion by Boykin second by Welte to approve and receive for signatures Resolution No. 9580 in recognition of Bronson Centennial. Carried 5-0.

Resolution In Recognition of the Centennial Celebration
For the City of Bronson, Iowa

Whereas, the Western Town Lot Company filed at the Woodbury County Courthouse
a platted map on November 20, 1901 to be known as the Town of Bronson, Iowa, and

Whereas, residential and commercial development flourished during 1902, and

Whereas, Articles of Incorporation for the Town of Bronson were filed and approved by the Clerk of the District Court of Woodbury County on September 19, 1907,
and

Whereas, the residents and community of Bronson, Iowa have played an integral role in the development of Woodbury County, and

Whereas, the residents of Bronson, Iowa can proudly point to their heritage, celebrate their Centennial today, and provide a rich legacy for the future,

Now therefore be it resolved, on this 2nd day of July, 2002, that the City of Bronson, Iowa be recognized, commended, and saluted for their accomplishments
in celebration of 100 years as a community.

Motion by Walish second by Boykin to go out of Executive Session. Carried 5-0 on roll call vote.

The Chairman asked if there were any individual or group wishing to make a presentation of items not on the agenda or Supervisors concerns.

The Board adjourned the regular meeting until July 9, 2002.
