Minutes - 9/13/2013 - Special Canvas Meeting

SEPTEMBER 13, 2013-SPECIAL MEETING OF THE WOODBURY COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS The Board of Supervisors met on Friday, September 13, 2013, at 9:00 a.m.  Board members present were Boykin, Clausen, Smith, and Monson; Tripp was absent.  Staff members present were Patrick F. Gill, Auditor/Clerk to the Board and Steve Hofmeyer, Deputy Commissioner of Elections.

The meeting was called to order to canvass the Regular School Board Election held in Woodbury County on September 10, 2013.

Steve Hofmeyer, Deputy Commissioner of Elections, announced there was 25(twenty-five) after-election ballots which 8(eight) were accepted and added to the tally.  Official Canvass results were as follows:

Lawton-Bronson School Board Director District 3 – 1 vacancy  

Steve Olson Received one hundred sixty-one (161) votes

Scattering Seven (7) votes  

TOTAL One hundred sixty-eight (168) votes

We therefore declare Steve Olson duly elected for the office of Lawton-Bronson School Board Director District 3 for the term of 4 years.

Lawton-Bronson School Board Director District 5 – 1 vacancy  

Machele Dunning Received one hundred forty-nine (149) votes  

Scattering Ten (10) votes  

TOTAL One hundred fifty-nine (159) votes  

We therefore declare Machele Dunning duly elected for the office of Lawton-Bronson School Board Director District 5 for the term of 4 years.

Lawton-Bronson School Board Director District 4 – To fill an unexpired vacancy  

Jesse A. Pedersen Received one hundred fifty-eight (158) votes

Scattering Eight (8) votes  

TOTAL One hundred sixty-six (166) votes

We therefore declare Jesse A. Pedersen duly elected for the office of Lawton-Bronson School Board Director District 4 for the term of 2 years.

Lawton-Bronson School Board – Public Measure  

Proposition A-Lawton-Bronson Instructional Support Tax

For the question, there were: One hundred thirty (130) votes  

Against the question, there were: Sixty-eight (68) votes  

TOTAL One hundred ninety-eight (198) votes  

GRAND TOTAL     One hundred ninety-eight (198) votes  

We therefore declare the public measure to be adopted.

Maple Valley-Anthon-Oto School Board Director-District 1 – 1 vacancy  

Karen Kennedy – Write-in            Received forty-eight (48) votes

Scattering Fifty-six (56) votes  

TOTAL One hundred four (104) votes

We therefore declare Karen Kennedy duly elected for the office of Maple Valley-Anthon-Oto School Board Director-District 1 for the term of 4 years.  

River Valley School Board Director District 1 – 1 vacancy  

Debie Stevenson – Write-in       Received forty-one (41) votes

Scattering Twenty-nine (29) votes  

TOTAL Seventy (70) votes

We therefore declare Debie Stevenson duly elected for the office of River Valley School Board Director District 1 for the term of 4 years.

River Valley School Board Director District 4 – 1 vacancy  

Dawn McCrea – Write-in           Received eighteen (18) votes

Scattering Twenty-one (21) votes  

TOTAL Thirty-nine (39) votes

We therefore declare Dawn McCrea duly elected for the office of River Valley School Board Director District 4 for the term of 4 years.

Sergeant Bluff-Luton School Board Director – 2 vacancies

Mike Laughlin Received eighty-nine (89) votes  

David Schaar Received seventy-seven (77) votes  

Scattering Two (2) votes  

TOTAL One hundred sixty-eight (168) votes

We therefore declare Mike Laughlin and David Schaar duly elected for the office of Sergeant Bluff-Luton School Board Director for the term of 4 years.  

Sioux City School Board Director – 3 vacancies  

Perla Alarcon-Flory Received one thousand four hundred (1400) votes  

Audie Baughman Received one thousand forty (1040) votes  

Shaun Michael Broyhill Received one thousand six hundred forty-five (1645) votes  

P. Paul Gorski Received one thousand seven hundred twenty-one (1721) votes  

Jacqueline Ritter Received one thousand one hundred forty-seven (1147) votes  

Paul A. Speidel Received one thousand six hundred seventy (1670) votes  

Scattering Fifty-six (56) votes  

TOTAL Eight thousand six hundred seventy-nine (8679) votes

We therefore declare Shaun Michael Broyhill, P. Paul Gorski, and Paul A. Speidel duly elected for the office of Sioux City School Board Director for the term of 4 years.  

Westwood School Board Director – 2 vacancies  

Lee Haveman Received two hundred four (204) votes  

Brenda Hinrickson Received one hundred sixty-three (163) votes

Diana Nordstrom Received one hundred sixty-seven (167) votes  

Scattering Six (6) votes  

TOTAL Five hundred forty (540) votes

We therefore declare Lee Haveman and Diana Nordstrom duly elected for the office of Westwood School Board Director for the term of 4 years.  

Woodbury Central School Board Director – 3 vacancies  

Taylor Lambert Received one hundred seven (107) votes  

Steve Steffen Received one hundred thirty-four (134) votes

Brad Koele – Write-in        Received one hundred twenty-two (122) votes  

Scattering Sixty-eight (68) votes  

TOTAL Four hundred thirty-one (431) votes  

We therefore declare:  Brad Koele duly, Taylor Lambert, and Steve Steffen duly elected for the office of Woodbury Central School Board Director for the term of 4 years.

Motion by Boykin second Monson by to approve and accept the Official Canvass results.  Carried 4-0.  Copy filed.

The Board adjourned the meeting.
