Committee Determines the Process And Timeline For Applicants Seeking The Vacancy In The Office of Woodbury County Supervisor, District 3.

Today, the Committee that will appoint the applicant seeking to fill the vacancy in the Office of Woodbury County Supervisor, District 3 approved the process and timeline that will be used. Applicants seeking the vacancy are required to submit a cover letter, resume, and complete the prepared questionnaire no later than January 18, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. by hand delivery to the Woodbury County Auditor’s Office, 620 Douglas Street, Room 103, Sioux City, Iowa. Failure to comply with the deadline, will result in an application not being considered by the Committee.

Applicants seeking the vacancy will be interviewed by the Committee in the basement of the Woodbury County Courthouse on January 23, 2023. The interviews will begin at 9:00 a.m. and continue throughout the day. The order the applicants will be interviewed in will be randomly chosen prior to interview process, and the applicants will be advised of their order before the interviews begin. The interviews will continue until all are completed but continue no later than 5:00 p.m. Applicants are not required to participate in the January 23rd interview process in order to be considered.

Applicants will be given 5 minutes to make a presentation to the Committee outlining their skills, qualifications, or background that make them the best candidate. Each Committee member will then have 3 minutes to ask any appropriate follow up questions. Public input as to what to ask the applicants may be submitted for consideration to the Committee members prior to the interview process, but each Committee member is not under any obligation to ask it.

The Committee set January 24th at 8:30 a.m. as the time that their deliberation process will begin to select their appointment. The deliberations will be held in the basement of the Courthouse. The deliberation process will be for Committee members to move for the appointment of an applicant, followed by a second motion for said applicant. Discussion will be held by the Committee members. There will be no public input or discussion during this period of time. Following discussion, a vote will be taken. The applicant will be appointed by a majority vote of the Committee.

The Committee, upon appointment, will put out a public notice of the applicant chosen. The Committee would intend to have the newly appointed Supervisor sworn in that same day, January 24th so that he/she can participate in the Board Meeting that day.

The January 23rd and 24th meetings in the Courthouse basement are open to the public. These meetings will be live-streamed so that those who are unable to attend in person can watch the proceedings.

The questionnaire that applicants are to submit or interested persons want to review can be obtained by going to the Woodbury County website,

The Committee has within 40 days after the vacancy occurs to make the appointment. After the appointment is made, citizens have 14 days to circulate and file with the Woodbury County Auditor a petition requesting a special election.
